Shows

I’ve been writing and performing one-man shows since 2002.

Here are the main ones…

Not Quite Sherlock

In this one-man play set in Victorian London, clueless Barnaby Gibbs tells the story of how he became the sidekick to a famous detective; and tries to answer the question, ‘why would a brilliant detective choose a bumbling fool like Gibbs to help him?’

With wit, charm, and almost no respect for the rules of theatre, veteran comedian Chris Gibbs presents a show that is hilarious, heartwarming, and apparently quite clever.

“a masterpiece that manages to be both ridiculous and intelligent”
Vancouver Sun

“one of the most cleverly written and performed shows I’ve ever seen at the Fringe.”

Not Quite Sherlock: The Tunnel of Terror

London, 1897. Barnaby Gibbs, a man made entirely of shortcomings, is no hero, but as sidekick to the brilliant detective, Antoine Feval, he’s pretty close. When an evil mastermind and his sinister Canadian henchman launch a plan to plunge the world into chaos, Gibbs will have no choice but to become exactly the hero he definitely isn’t meant to be.
Another hilarious tale of clueless crime-fighting from master story-teller Chris Gibbs

“Gibbs is a top-level performer, seamlessly switching from smart wordplay, to snappy ad libs. This is one sequel that works.”
CBC

“a sly, stylish, and highly literate little gem…The writing is very funny. And the way it comes to life, culminating in a climactic action sequence through east end London, has a dizzy intricacy that will make you laugh very hard, but afraid to laugh too loud in case you miss something.”
Edmonton Journal

A Mystery At Murder Manor

It is the Christmas of 1897. The brilliant detective Antoine Feval and his bumbling sidekick Barnaby Gibbs are engaged to investigate some mysterious goings-on at Murder Manor. It’s a Christmas ghost story, but is it the scary kind? Or the happy kind?

This brand new Not Quite Sherlock Mystery was a sell out hit at the 2025 Winnipeg Fringe

“… hilarious… rivetingly unpacked … Gibbs’ nimble, charismatic delivery and ability to connect with the crowd leave folks in stitches.”
Winnipeg Free Press

Like Father, Like Son? Sorry.

British comedian Chris Gibbs has been unqualified for many jobs… he was an overweight acrobat, a private school English teacher whose only qualification was a British accent, and a Titanic Museum re-enactor fired after one day for ‘adding a few jokes’. Then he found himself in the most difficult, most important job of all… fatherhood.

A stand-up comedy show that playfully explores the fears, worries and surprises of being a new father, and the absolute terror of wanting to be a good one.

Thank you for having me.

Chris Gibbs first came to Canada in 1995. Since then he’s moved to Canada permanently, married a Canadian, and made a Canadian. He’s met a Canadian who apologised for saving his life; been given more advice on bear avoidance than anyone could possibly need, and has spent more time than strictly necessary wondering what it means to ‘drop your accent.’.

In case it’s not clear, this is a stand-up comedy show about Canadians, by someone who isn’t one.

The Power of Ignorance

The Power of Ignorance is a one-man mock motivational seminar featuring Vaguen, Master of Ignorance. Vaguen presents his method of achieving success and happiness and in doing so brings the audience into a darkly comic world of twisted logic and motivational nonsense.
