A Mystery at Murder Manor

It is the Christmas of 1897. The brilliant detective Antoine Feval and his bumbling sidekick Barnaby Gibbs are engaged to investigate some mysterious goings-on at Murder Manor. It’s a Christmas ghost story, but is it the scary kind? Or the happy kind?

This brand new Not Quite Sherlock Mystery was a sell out hit at the 2025 Winnipeg Fringe

“… hilarious… rivetingly unpacked … Gibbs’ nimble, charismatic delivery and ability to connect with the crowd leave folks in stitches.”

This show is too new to have lots of press. So here’s a selection of Winnipeg Fringe patron reviews instead…

“I was crying I laughed so hard! This was an amazing one man, storytelling, comedy! Gibbs does a fantastic job of weaving in jabs, history and literary/movie references, and audience connections into this wonderful who dun’ it?!”

“If you’re into comedy, mysteries, and chaos, you MUST see this show. If you don’t like those things, see it anyway! Chris Gibbs is hilarious, a fantastic storyteller, and quick on his feet, allowing even his fourth wall breaks to keep the audience enthralled in his world and characters. He builds each character to be their own powerhouse of personality, despite all being played by one man. The set is bare, being a single chair, but the vivid descriptions that Gibbs gives throughout the show seem to appear before you regardless. His verbal fumbles prove to be a unique strength — his ability to turn any trip over words into a humorous one off kept the audience on the edge of their seats.”

“Doyle, Christie, Dickens and Poe as told by an imbecile. An incredibly clever, talented, charming, funny and knowledgeable imbecile. It is funny and delightful throughout, but never becomes parody: Gibbs treats his sources with love and respect, recreating the mood and feelings from some of the best parts of Hound of the Baskervilles, The Mysterious Affair at Styles and Christmas Carol.”

“Laugh out loud funny with more than enough fuel for belly-busting guffaws along the way. Feeling lucky to have snagged a seat to this World Premiere. You need to see this!”

“5/5 stars, we go to his plays every year and they are always excellent. The storyline of this year’s play was amazing. Definitely recommend going.”

“A joy from beginning to end. The humour was on point and the audience was along for the ride. It’s not often I cry-laugh; this was one of those moments. 10/10. Would see again.”
